Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad works but won’t open the gate after rain. Water has seeped past the seal and shorted the ribbon cable or the board contacts. We see this most after North Texas downpours. Ghost Controls seals are decent, but Euless humidity finds the gap sooner or later.
- Keypad lights up, beeps, and the gate doesn’t move. The control board relay that receives the keypad’s command has burned out. The keypad itself is often fine. Replacing the relay or the board is cheaper than you think and doesn’t require a whole new opener.
- Gate opens on its own, or won’t stop cycling. Usually a failing exit loop detector or a stuck sensor input. The safety edges may be sending a constant signal, or the loop in the concrete has a break. We can isolate this in about 20 minutes with a meter.
- Intercom rings but no voice comes through. The speaker or microphone connection has corroded at the board terminal. Ghost Controls intercom wiring is low voltage, but condensation inside the box still does damage over a year or two of temperature swings.
- Remote works every time, keypad is dead. Also typically the connector or the board, not the buttons. It’s a simple voltage check. If the keypad isn’t getting 24 volts from the board, the board’s voltage regulator failed.

DIY or Call Us?
Access control work is low voltage, and that’s exactly why some folks in Euless try it themselves. A keypad is a few screws and two wires, so how hard can it be? Fair question. The honest answer: if you match the wires color to color on an identical replacement keypad, it often works. The problems start when the board connector has changed, the old wiring is corroded inside the jacket, or the relay is the actual failure and you’ve bought a new keypad that doesn’t fix anything.

The heat, humidity, and occasional hail stretch seals and dry out board solder joints faster than the manufacturer’s coastal testing might suggest. If your system is older than seven years and the access control has failed, replacement is the better money.
Sometimes, but not often enough that we’d promise it. A corroded ribbon cable can be cleaned with contact cleaner, and a loose wire can be reseated.
