Which Viking Models This Applies To

Both use the same basic welded construction, but the Estate series runs thicker wall tube and takes a heavier hinge. How to identify what you have: Look for a builder’s plate or sticker on the inside of the gate frame, usually near the bottom rail or one of the uprights. If it’s gone, measure the outside diameter of the main frame tube. The Residential line uses 1.5-inch square tube with roughly 16-gauge wall; the Estate series runs 2-inch and heavier. One compatibility note that trips up Euless owners: Viking changed hinge-bracket geometry around 2012, and the older brackets don’t interchange with the newer ones even when the hole pattern looks close. If your gate predates that change, we fabricate the bracket rather than gamble on an aftermarket substitute that doesn’t sit flush.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate drags on the latch side. This almost always means the hinge-side welds are stretching, not that the post moved. The metal holds, but the gate drops a quarter-inch and the latch no longer lines up. Left alone, the hinge tears out entirely.
• You can see daylight through a welded joint. A hairline crack that you can see through when the gate is open is a structural failure in progress. It will not self-repair, and welding over it without grinding out the crack first means it comes back within a year.
• The gate feels springy or bounces after it closes. That’s fatigue in the frame itself, usually at a welded joint near the middle rail. The steel has work-hardened from thousands of open-close cycles and is flexing instead of holding still.
• A hinge bolt has wallowed out its hole. The bolt stays tight, but the gate still wobbles because the hole in the steel is no longer round. On Euless soil, where gate posts settle subtly for years, this shows up more than owners expect.
• Rust staining runs down from a weld point. Moisture gets into a cracked weld, rusts from the inside, and bleeds orange streaks down the picket. That’s not cosmetic. That’s a welded joint that has already failed and is now corroding from within.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can safely check the obvious things at home: look for cracked welds, wiggle the gate by hand to feel for play, and note where the gate drags. That’s useful information for our estimate, and it costs you nothing.

What we don’t recommend is anyone without structural welding experience repairing a Viking gate at home with a 110-volt flux-core welder from the big-box store. These gates carry hundreds of pounds, cycle thousands of times a year, and a failed weld doesn’t just droop the gate; it can drop the gate on a car, a child, or the person standing next to it.
